Now I want to talk about something different. This year 8 people have died in dealings with ICE. Two of them were shot and murdered in broad daylight. The videos of these killings are absolutely appalling. Masked men with assault rifles and minimal training are roaming our city streets killing people, 2000 soldiers in the city of Minneapolis alone. The way officials have been referring to the Twin City as a “theater” should be making us all feel uneasy. So, what do we do? I don’t really know the answer to that question. All I know is that we need to do something. Mobilize.us has been a good website for finding protests and gatherings in Washtenaw County. These protests have been a great way to see that other people are concerned too. Talk to people, accept fliers, get mad. At the same time there are meetings and trainings on ICE preparedness happening around town. Overcoming oppression of this caliber requires a village and we need to be villagers. Now more than ever. As I said, I don’t really have clear answers for what to do and am seeking guidance as much as I’m trying to provide it. If you have any ideas, reach out, let’s talk and let’s work on this village together.
