Dog Star Farm

Our Values

  • “Man – despite his artistic pretensions, his sophistication and his many accomplishments – owes his existence to a 6-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”- Paul Harvey

Dog Star farm is committed to ensuring the land we are on has healthy thriving soils. From the mycelial networks to the good bacteria, everything we do builds soil.

No-till practices are essential to maintaining soil health, along with regular soil tests, organic amendments, using composts and natural mulches and annual aeration

Ask us more about these and we’ll be happy to share some insights.

  • We believe that healthy delicious produce should be affordable to everyone.

Because of this we are transparent in our pricing structure, we will work with farmers markets to accept Double Up Bucks and will provide you advice on how to make the most of your produce (saving money and reducing food waste).

We are working towards accepting SNAP/ MI Bridge cards.

  • Connection is at the heart of what we do.

Dog Star Farm provides nutritious produce to local people and business. We are committed to serving the community and to sharing knowledge wherever we can.

Get involved at one of our Volunteer days, chat with us as about what you’re growing at our market stall, pop in to our farmstand. We will also be hosting events on the farm teaching people how to harvest, preserve and grow vegetables.

    More on this soon.

Growing great vegetables

Located outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Dog Star Farm focuses on producing affordable, community-centred, and soil-building produce. Magda Nawrocka-Weekes and Zach Goodman bring their farming expertise to agroecological vegetable production. They commit to growing culturally resonant, delicious varieties in harmony with the local ecosystem.

Meet the Team

Magda and Zach met on a farm in Colorado and have been farming together ever since. They each bring something special to Dog Star Farm.

  • Zach started his career working as an engineer in the auto industry. Covid caused him to reassess his values and, after quitting his office job, set off to the Rockies to learn about farming. There he met Magda and the two have been growing food together ever since. Zach loves working in the fields, picking weeds and shovelling compost. He’s passionate about growing food and is happy to field questions about soil and crops. Zach enjoys hiking with Magda, riding bikes and fretting over his 1986 VW Vanagon.

  • Co-Owner

Magda is a poet, witch and farmer. She loves folklore, pop culture and the stuff in between. When not saving seeds or working in the field, they write a tarot newsletter that fosters connection within ourselves and the lands we inhabit. After a degree in biochemistry, she worked in various environmental and food-based jobs until resigning mid-Covid to pursue farming. She is a passionate seed keeper and enjoys the complicated logistics of running a farm. Her love for food translates not only into growing it but into cooking, preserving and writing about it too.
